Grape varieties : Grenache Noir 100%

Terroirs : Our three terroirs of Tautavel, Maury and Saint Paul express themselves in this vintage through the diversity of their soil - shale, clayey limestone or black schist.

Vinification : The harvest is carried out by hand with the use of shallow crates. The grapes are sorted in the vineyard and are then destalked. Fermentation lasts for 6 to 7 days followed by the fortification of the grape berries (mutage sur grains). Maceration of three weeks post fermentation.

Ageing : in barrels of 400 to 600 litres during 10 months.

Treatment : filtered and fined before bottling.

Storage : as the wine has been aged it can either be drunk straight away, or can be laid down for a very long period of time.

Tasting notes :
a superb, dark cherry-red colour with purplish hues. The nose expresses first of all aromas of red fruits and redcurrants that develop into hints of spices. The mouth reveals beautiful tannins with notes of strawberries and blackberries and finishes on a pleasant sweetness. Savour as an aperitif or with dessert; red fruit tart, chocolate, coffee and cigars.

Packaging : Bordeaux top alliance (750ml), natural cork, personalised cardboard-box of 6 bottles laid flat.

AOC Maury

Geographical Location : Four towns of Pyrénées-Orientales north-west from Perpignan (Maury, Tautavel, Saint-Paul de Fenouillet et Rasiguères).

Surface Area : 355 hectares

Color :White and Red oxydés or not (« Vendange », « Récolte » and « Vintage »).
Grape Varieties:
- White grapes varieties: Grenache Blanc & Gris, Macabeu, Malvoisie du Roussillon, Muscats d’Alexandrie et Petits Grains.
-  Red grapes varieties: Grenache Noir, Carignan et Syrah.

Terroir: The vineyard of Maury streches on black schists hills

Maximum Yeld allowed : 30 hl/ha

Production: 7 000 hectolitres

The Maury is a natural sweet wine from the village of Maury, North-West from Perpignan in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The Maury is tannic and manly. We obtain it by adding pure alcohol during the fermentation. These wines keep a large part of its natural sugar. The production yield is always small.

The wines from Maury come from a little vineyard of 17 km long and 3 km wide. Sheltered on the north part by the Catalan Corbières mountains and south by the buttress of the Pyrenees.

Relics of farms occupied by the templars first and then by the knights of the Order of St George show the interest aroused by this specific “terroir” for the vine cultivation.

During the French Revolution, this region got dispensation for the vine growing. The first land registry dates from 1820 in the village of Maury.

The Maury is part of part of these high quality natural sweet wines which find their origins in the 13th Century. In 1299, Arnaud de Villeneuve, doctor at the court of the Aragon King, professor in the University of Medicine of Montpellier and alchemist, already knew the wine distillation process discovered by the Arabs to produce alcohol. This “esprit de vin” mixed with fermenting rape, stopped the fermentation and stabilised the wine containing the remaining sugar. The result is a natural sweet wine.

Maury is a “terroir” for natural sweet wines whose specificity has been known by the French government since 1872 when they conceded a particular status due to its production restraints. Maury became an “Appellation d’Origine Controlée “ (“controlled term of origin”) in August 1936.
